Thready, Set, Sew! | Beginner Hand Sewing Book

The sew-by-color activity book to learn the nine beginner hand-sewing skills you need in your toolkit to mend garments yourself. All materials included.

We’ve all been there - your button pops off your outfit at work, you find a hole in your favorite piece that you weren’t ready to part with, or your pant hem unravels while trying to get out the door to an event. These are easy fixes that you can do yourself, when you know how to tackle them. That’s where our beginner hand sewing book, Thready, Set, Sew!, comes in.

At Edgington Studio, we believe sewing is so much more than a “dying art” – it’s a life skill. So, through our workshops, we have gathered feedback about the mending you all want to tackle and created step-by-step instructions with illustrations to help you do it. Each stitch lesson comes with an accompanying swatch with colored dots to guide your sewing. When you’re finished, attach the swatch in your book to refer back to during your sewing projects. Thready, Set, Sew! makes sewing fun, approachable, and accessible. It’s about breaking down techniques step-by-step to teach you the perfect process that can be replicated when you need to take mending matters into your own hands.

From our toolkit to yours, let’s get sewing!

We have narrowed it down to the most essential techniques to kickstart your sewing. Skills covered in this book include: thread a needle using a needle threader, knot the thread, seam removal, finish a stitch, running stitch, backstitch, apply a patch with whipstitch, apply a 2-hole button, and apply a 4-hole button.

Don’t worry, you don’t have to purchase additional materials to complete the activities. We have it all here for you and will explain how to use each tool. The sewing kit included in this book contains: (2) hand sewing needles, thread, (1) needle threader, (1) seam ripper, (4) 2-hole buttons, (4) 4-hole buttons, (7) swatches, and double-sided tape.
